Atomic Run
If you enjoy pushing yourself and your machine, this adventure may be for you.
We will start in Atomic City and ride some lesser known trails, along with many well established trails, all the way to St. Anthony sand dunes and back. For ATV drivers this is an endurance challenge. UTV drivers should have it a bit easier, but still a challenge. Some riders may have their ATV or UTV trailered back to Atomic City, or home, rather than driving back the same day. You may also want to trade off driving.
You will need to ensure you have enough fuel to travel the 150 miles round trip (you will want extra for any detours, chosen or not). If you are going to ride at the dunes, please be aware of their specific rules, including the need for a flag. If you are not familiar with riding at the dunes, please go with someone who is. It can be a very dangerous place to ride if you are not familiar with the sheer drop offs and other dangers.
A possible route will be available. It is only an example route as the only two check points are the trailhead in Atomic City and the entrance to the sand dunes on 400 North about 12 miles east-southeast of St. Anthony. Just make sure you do not wander onto Department of Energy property or you may get visited by armed security or a helicopter, respect no trespassing signs (remember there are some public trails and roads that go through private property, but stay on the trails) and close gates if you need to open them.
We will be starting at 7:00 Saturday morning. You are welcome to bring RV's for boondocking Friday and Saturday nights. Please contact us to request a space.
As always, local trails will be available for those who want to stay in the area and take it a bit easier.
